MTN Group forecasts 2015 earnings to drop by 20%
MTN Group has forecast a drop of at least 20 percent in basic headline earnings per share for 2015. In a trading statement, MTN blamed its weaker earnings on Nigerian regulators forcing the operator to disconnect 5.2 million unregistered SIM cards in its biggest market. 

The company added that it's experienced the "withholding of regulatory services" in Nigeria. It said discussions on the regulatory fine in Nigeria are still ongoing, but there remains some uncertainty as to how big it will be, should an out-of-court settlement be reached. The financial results 2015 will be announced on 3 March.

MTN pays USD 250 mln towards Nigeria settlement

MTN Nigeria said it has paid USD 250 (NGN 50 billion) to the Nigerian authorities over a disputed USD 3.9 billion fine for failing to disconnect unregistered Sim card users. Nigerian ICT Minister Adebayo Shittu has insisted that MTN must pay a substantial part of the NGN 780 billion fine imposed on it for Simcard registration guideline infractions before any out of court settlement could be honoured, The Independent reported. Nigerian court adjourns MTN hearing to allow settlement

The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned until 18 March the hearing of a case over the fine imposed by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) against MTN Nigeria. MTN said the judge decided 22 January to adjourn the case in order to enable the parties to try to settle. If the parties are unable to reach a settlement, the matter will then proceed on that date.
