Netflix has announced new price increases for North America, set to take place gradually for existing customers and in effect immediately for new subscribers. This seventh price hike in eleven years will affect all of the company’s three packages.
The Basic package will cost USD 9.99 per month, up from USD 8.99. This plan lets users watch one screen at the same time and download content onto one device (phone or tablet). The Standard package, priced at USD 15.49 compared to USD 13.99 previously, lets viewers watch two screens at the same time and to have downloads on two devices. It also features HD content. The most expensive tier, Premium, will cost USD 19.99, up from USD 17.99. It delivers Ultra HD and viewing and downloads on four screens.
For Canada, the tiers will be priced at CAD 9.99, CAD 16.49 and CAD 20.99, respectively.
"We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever, and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members," the company said, as reported by Ars Technica. "We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. As always, we offer a range of plans so members can pick a price that works for their budget."
