Nokia to work with Kaiserslautern university on 5G networks

Nokia Networks announced that it will sponsor research related to 5G network architecture at the University of Kaiserslautern in Germany and work closely with the university to study the changes that are required in the telco architecture in future. A new network architecture is required to manage complex multi-layer and multi-technology networks, and to build in flexibility even for applications that are yet to be envisioned.

5G networks will have to be programmable, software-driven and managed holistically to enable a diverse range of services in a profitable way.

To address all these requirements, Nokia Networks is working with leading research universities, such as the University of Kaiserslautern, to define next-generation network architecture. The cooperation focuses on understanding the requirements of the Internet of Things and developing architecture components to address its needs.
