Nokia Networks to trial 5G last-hop for home broadband

Nokia Networks announced that it will start trialling a 5G hotspot system next year to bring 1 Gbps 'last-hop' connections to homes with no fibre service. Commercial availability is expected in 2017. The equipment could be installed on adjacent lamp posts, for example, with 5G-ready 10 Gbps sites providing 1 Gbps to several homes. Nokia Networks' recently revealed programmable 5G multi-service architecture provides a view on what type of network architecture is needed for future use by consumers and M2M for IoT.
