OnePlus unveils new Pro model to target high-end smartphone market

OnePlus has unveiled its latest smartphone, including a standard OnePlus 7 and a 7 Pro model to target the premium segment. The basic phone starts at EUR 559, and the Pro version costs from EUR 709. The Pro model will ship from 21 May, and the OnePlus 7 is planned to launch in June.

The OnePlus 7 Pro aims to compete with the large-screen devices from Samsung or Huawei with multiple cameras. It features a 6.67-inch 90Hz Amoled screen with QHD+ resolution, 19.5:9 aspect and 516 ppi and runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with up to 12 GB RAM and a choice of 128 or 256 GB storage.

The 4,000 mAh battery can go from zero to 50 percent power in 20 minutes thanks to the Warp Charge 3.0 system. The phone also comes with UBS 3.0 support and ten-layer Liquid Cooling to support long gaming sessions.

The triple camera on the back includes a standard 48 megapixel f/1.6 sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel zoom lens and a 16-megapixel wide-angle lens (117 degrees). The front camera is housed in a small pop-up module and offers 16 megapixels with f/2.0 aperture. The pop-up means the 7 Pro is entirely edgeless, with a curved body and screen to fit well in the hand.

The OnePlus 7 is more similar to OnePlus's last generation of phone, with a small upgrade in the hardware. It features a 6.2-inch FHD+ Amoled display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, the Snapdragon 855 processor, and a choice of 6 or 8 GB RAM.

On the back are two cameras: a Sony IMX586 with 48 megapixels, f/1.7, OIS and EIS, and a second 5-megapixel lens with depth sensor. The front camera is in a notch at the top of the screen.

OnePlus also confirmed that it plans a 5G version of the OnePlus 7 Pro. The company showed the phone running the Qualcomm X50 5G modem at the presentation. It is expected to launch first with EE in the UK.
