Opera Software has introduced a new feature to its Opera Max mobile data-savings and management app that will allow operators to offer subscribers free access to selected Android apps. Opera said the App Pass feature is aimed at developing markets, where operators can use it to encourage mobile data usage among subscribers who've been put off by the cost of mobile data. Subscribers can use an App Pass to easily connect and try out selected mobile apps at no extra charge. Opera is rolling out the new service with Norwegian operator Telenor, which intends to launch Opera Max with App Pass in some of its Asian markets via pilots with short-term passes. According to Opera, the Opera Max service helps to boost the size of a user's data bundle by up to 50 percent.
