A court in China has sided with Qualcomm in its patent case against some Apple subsidiaries. The Fuzhou Intermediate People’s Court in China has granted Qualcomm’s request for two preliminary injunctions against four Chinese subsidiaries of Apple. The two patents had previously been found to be valid by SIPO, the Chinese patent office.
The Fuzhou court ordered the Chinese companies to immediately stop infringing two Qualcomm patents through the unlicensed import, sale and offers for sale in China of the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X.Qualcomm expressed satisfaction with the injunctions. The company explained that the patents centre around how people adjust and reformat the size and appearance of their photographs, and how they manage applications using a touch screen, whether they view, navigate or dismiss applications on their phones.
Qualcomm has other patent cases running against Apple in China and other areas of the world.
Apple said that all of its phone models remained on sale in mainland China and that it had filed a request for reconsideration with the court, Reuters reports. The company noted that its three latest models of iPhone, released in September, were not part of the case.
"Qualcomm’s effort to ban our products is another desperate move by a company whose illegal practices are under investigation by regulators around the world," Apple said.
