Rakuten Mobile passes 2 million applications for Un-Limit service

Japanese operator Rakuten Mobile has announced that the total number of applications for its ‘Un-Limit’ service plan has surpassed 2 million. Rakuten Mobile launched its unlimited tariff plan on 8 April this year.

The Rakuten Un-Limit service plan offers unlimited data use within Rakuten network areas and unlimited domestic calls using the Rakuten Link app for a monthly fee of JPY 2,980. The service plan also offers 5GB of data per month within service areas provided by Rakuten Mobile’s domestic roaming partner, in addition to a maximum data transmission speed of 1 Mbps after using the allocated 5GB of data.

Rakuten Mobile also provides 3 million customers with their first year of service free of charge, and offers incentives for product purchases. On 30 September, Rakuten Mobile upgraded its offering of customer services with the launch of the Rakuten Un-Limit V service plan, including 5G and 4G service for the same monthly fee as the previous 4G plan.

Back in November, Rakuten Mobile launched its Zero Declaration initiatives designed at promoting a mobile market in which customers can freely choose the operator that best suits their needs. These initiatives include the elimination of handling fees, mobile number portability transfer fees and contract cancellation fees, as well as free-of-charge exchange and re-issue of SIM cards.
