Rostelecom, Ericsson to start 5G trial at Hermitage Museum

Russian national operator Rostelecom, in cooperation with Ericsson, plans to carry out a 5G trial at the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. The partners will deploy a 5G trial zone on the premises of the Hermitage Museum based on Ericsson’s latest 5G technology and a mix of virtual reality, haptic technology, and robotics. The three parties involved made the announcement after signing a memorandum of understanding, and the trial is scheduled for the first half of 2018.

In the preparation phase, Ericsson will deliver the full range of solutions required for the trial and provide expertise for the implementation and integration. The equipment includes the Ericsson Radio System ready for 5G implementation. The network will be operated in the 3.5 GHz frequency band and support LTE/LTE-Advanced devices.

Russian regulator to allocate bands for 5G testing

Russian federal radio frequencies commission SRFC has prepared a draft decision on the allocation of bands for operators wishing to test 5G systems, reports Comnews.ru. The regulator plans to allocate frequencies in the 25.25-29.5 GHz band to mobile operator Beeline for the testing of 5G networks in Moscow and St Petersburg, as well as in the Voronezh, St Petersburg, Moscow, Krasnodar, Stavropol and Samara regions and in the Republic of Tatarstan. Rostelecom expands link for air carrier Volga-Dnepr

Russian national operator Rostelecom has expanded a backbone telecommunications link for the air carrier Volga-Dnepr in the city of Ulyanovsk. The capacity of the link totals 100 Mbps. The operator deployed the necessary equipment and provided the carrier with a direct link to the Ulyanovsk-Eastern airport.
