Samsung downgrades Q3 profit guidance on Note 7 woes

Samsung has revised its guidance for the third quarter downwards, on the back of its woes with the relaunched Galaxy Note 7. The company now expects revenues at KRW 46-48 trillion and the operating profit at KRW 5.1-5.3 trillion. Samsung had earlier guided for revenues at KRW 48-50 trillion and operating profit at KRW 7.7-7.9 trillion.

For the second quarter, the company reported revenues at KRW 50.94 trillion and an operating profit at KRW 8.14 trillion.

Samsung to report on Note 7 investigation 23 January

Samsung announced that it will hold a press conference in Seoul on 23 January to discuss its investigation into the faults with the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. Samsung conducted its own investigation as well as hiring independent experts to look at why several of the phones caught fire. The incidents led to a global recall of the device last fall. Samsung profits fall on costs of Note 7 recall

Samsung reported third-quarter results down in line with its earlier profit warning, after the recall of its failed Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. Sales fell to KRW 47.82 trillion from KRW 51.68 trillion a year ago, and operating profit dropped to KRW 5.20 trillion from KRW 7.39 trillion. Net profit was down to KRW 4.54 trillion from KRW 5.46 trillion.

Samsung warns for profit hit in Q4, Q1

After lowering its guidance for the third quarter on the back of its Galaxy Note 7 woes, Samsung said it expects a drop in revenue to continue affecting profits the following two quarters. The company said the move will have a negative impact of mid KRW 3 trillion (EUR 2.4 billion) on its operating profit from the fourth quarter of this year through the first quarter of next year. The impact is expected to be in the mid KRW 2 trillion range for Q4 2016 and KRW 1 trillion for Q1 2017.

Vodafone, Samsung offer NZD 100 credit for Note 7 users

Vodafone, in partnership with Samsung, has announced that Note 7 customers will be issued with a NZD 100 credit to compensate them for the stress and inconvenience of having to replace and/or return their device. Customers who have already returned their Note 7 will be issued with the account credit almost immediately.
