Samsung expands 5G phone range, launches new tablet, fitness band

Samsung has announced several more devices in its Galaxy range for the year-end shopping season. After the top-of-the-range Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 smartphones introduced in the past month, the company announced the more mainstream Galaxy Tab A7 tablet aimed at families, the Galaxy Fit 2 fitness band and another 5G phone in the mid-range A series, the Galaxy A42 5G.

The new products were unveiled in an online event entitled 'Life Unstoppable', which used the Epic Games’ Unreal gaming platform to create a virtual Samsung home. This showed the new mobile products in use, along with new appliances, monitors and TVs from Samsung. Featured presenters included British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith; Spotify VP of Product Sten Garmark; DAZN Chief Subscription Officer Ben King; and professional eSports player and Samsung Morning Star gamer Stass ‘StenBosse’ Skopin.

The newest addition to Samsung’s tablet family, the Galaxy Tab A7 comes with a 10.4-inch screen housed in a symmetrical bezel with a premium metal finish. It offers an 80 percent screen to body ratio, quad Dolby Atmos speakers and a long-lasting battery to support the growing number of entertainment sessions at home with the family. The new Samsung Kids app comes with educational content and games pre-loaded.

The new wearable Galaxy Fit 2 promises a slim, lightweight design, long-lasting battery and advanced tracking features. It automatically detects and tracks up to five different types of activity, providing insights such as calories burned, heart rate and distance. It will also monitor your sleep patterns, providing daily analysis and a 'Sleep Score'. Samsung said the band's groove design can help reduce sweating and the 3D glass display comes with over 70 different face options. The Fit 2 can run for up to 15 days without a charge, extendable to 21 days depending on settings and conditions.

The Galaxy A42 5G adds to the A51 and A71 5G models released earlier this year. It comes with a new quad camera layout and 6.6-inch Super Amoled display.
