Samsung to launch Galaxy Fold in US on 27 September

Samsung announced its Galaxy Fold smartphone will go on sale 27 September in the US. The company signed a distribution deal with AT&T for the folding device, and it will also be available at Samsung outlets and the electronics chain Best Buy.

All customers who buy the phone will receive 'Galaxy Fold Premier Service', where a 'Fold Concierge' walks them through the functions of the new phone, the in-box materials and the included accessories. In the US, the device comes with Galaxy Buds and a custom aramid fibre case. As part of the onboarding service, the concierge can also help transfer contacts and data from another device to the Galaxy Fold, and be reached at anytime on a toll-free number or through the Samsung app.

The extra service follows problems with the preview devices sent out earlier this year, which ended up breaking for several reviewers. This prompted Samsung to delay the launch of the phone in April and work further on its folding hinge system, screen and software.

AT&T said the device will be available from USD 66 per month on a 30-month contract.
