Sky, TalkTalk, CityFibre team for York FTTP network

British Sky Broadcasting and TalkTalk have joined forces with UK fibre optic infrastructure provider CityFibre to set up a new JV to deliver ultra-fast broadband services in the city of York. The JV will build a city-wide pure FTTP network to deliver broadband speeds of 1 Gbps direct to tens of thousands of homes and businesses. The new network will exploit CityFibre's existing metro fibre infrastructure in York. Sky and TalkTalk will sell rival broadband services over the new infrastructure, with the first customers expected to be connected in 2015. The partners will work with technology provider Fujitsu to deploy the network. They also plan to bring ultra-fast broadband to two further cities across the UK, with further details about the selection of these cities to be announced in due course.
