Softbank exploring bid for TikTok operations in India - report
SoftBank said it is looking into making an offer for TikTok’s Indian operations, together with a group of other bidders and local partners, Bloomberg reported, citing sources close to the matter. The investor has over the past few months held discussions with India’s Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bharti Airtel. Talks fizzled, but Softbank is still exploring its options, the sources added. 

 Softbank owns a stake in TikTok parent ByteDance.

The price will range from JPY 1,204.50 per share for the Japanese part of the offering to JPY 1,179.85 per share for the international offering and JPY 1,192.08 per share for the international greenshoe. SoftBank expects to raise JPY 1.117 trillion from the total offering. The greenshoe was set at 100.5 million shares.

TikTok has joined the EC's Code of Conduct on Countering Illegal Hate Speech Online. Announcing the move, Cormac Keenan, Head of Trust and Safety EMEA, said that TikTok's ultimate goal was to eliminate all hate on the platform to make it a more welcoming community experience for all users worldwide.

The installed base of the TikTok app among Dutch young people has grown extremely fast over the past year, according to research from Telecompaper covering the second quarter. Facebook loses young Swiss users to TikTok - study

Facebook is losing users in Switzerland among people under the age of 25, who are turning to Chinese video portal TikTok, according to a Digimonitor study carried out by the Link Institute on behalf of electronic media interest group IGEM and research media company WEMF. TikTok is currently growing at the fastest pace in the country, with the number of people using it having increased almost fivefold this year compared with the previous year.

China says it must give approval before ByteDance can sell TikTok

China has imposed new regulations that could slow down the sale of TikTok's US operations by ByteDance, the South China Morning Post reported. US President Donald Trump invoked emergency powers earlier this month, giving China's ByteDance 90 days to sell its US operations in TikTok or to stop all of its US operations. The 90 days will end on 15 September but China has now stepped in, tightening up export rules concerning tech matters.

TikTok CEO Mayer quits after 3 months following political turmoil

Kevin Mayer has resigned as CEO of TikTok, just over three months after taking the job, the New York Times reports. In a note to employees seen by the paper, Mayer said that a series of changes to TikTok's structure prompted him to leave. This follows the US government ordering a ban on doing business with TikTok's parent company, China-based ByteDance, and talks to sell TikTok's US operations.

TikTok files court appeal against 'heavily politicised' US ban

TikTok has confirmed it filed a complaint in US federal court in San Francisco challenging the government's order to ban the app in the US as unconstitutional. The company said there was no evidence to justify such an "extreme action" and it was being denied due process to defend its interests due to political interests. TikTok repeated again that it is not a threat to national security in the US.

Oracle joins race for TikTok - report

Oracle is also in talks to buy TikTok, the Financial Times reported. The company is the latest to express interest in the social media app, after Microsoft and Twitter. Oracle is "seriously considering" buying TikTok US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, according to the report. The FT's sources added that ByteDance is also working with investment firms such as General Atlantic and Sequoia Capital to find a buyer.

US emergency order gives ByteDance 90 days to sell US operations in TikTok

US President Donald Trump has invoked emergency powers and is giving ByteDance 90 days to divest its US operations in TikTok, including any data obtained from TikTok or Musical.ly app holders in the US. In an order published on the Whitehouse.gov portal, Trump said there was credible evidence that ByteDance, owner of TikTok, might, with its 2017 acquisition of US social media app Musical.ly, "take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States."
