Telefonica removes permanence clauses for all Movistar Fusion plans

Telefonica has announced that it’s completely removing all permanence clauses tying residential customers to its Movistar Fusion plans. The company hasn’t imposed a permanence clause on its mobile plans since 2013 but still required fibre clients to commit to remain with the operator for the first 3 months, a clause it has now removed for both existing and new customers.

Telefonica launched its O2 Spain brand last year with a similar pledge and Masmovil’s Yoigo brand likewise removed all contract commitments earlier this year but the former incumbent said it’s the country’s first MNO to remove permanence clauses from all its brands. “Movistar is once again changing the rules of the game and allowing customers to choose Movistar for the quality and variety of its services in a free way without… being caught out by permanence clauses,” said Telefonica Spain president Emilio Gayo in a statement announcing the company's decision.
