Telenor Sweden activates commercial private 5G network for Atlas Copco

Telenor Sweden said it has signed what it claims is the world's first commercial agreement for a private 5G network, which is based on Ericsson Industry Connect and uses the 3.7 GHz spectrum. Telenor has joined forces with Fujitsu to install and activate the network at Atlas Copco's manufacturing plant at Sickla in Stockholm.

Andreas Kristensson, head of IoT and new business for Telenor Sverige, said it plans to connect two more partners in Sweden to 5G industrial manufacturing spectrum before the end of 2020.

Lars Eklof, president of the Atlas Copco motor vehicle industry division, said more than 90 percent of its tools are connected to its customers' systems, mostly through fixed couplings. As the industry increasingly needs flexibility, it also provides a large number of wireless systems connected through different technologies. The 5G network provides new possibilities in automation and smart connected systems, he said.
