TikTok to introduce option for longer videos
Chinese video-sharing app TikTok, famous for its videos from 15 to 60 seconds long, said it plans to introduce an option for longer videos. The company said the option, for up to three minutes of video in length, will give more time for creators to make new or expanded types of content on the video service. The option will be rolled out over the coming weeks.

The deal will give SMEs the possibility to make video ads using an AI-driven production tool, publishing ads directly into the TikTok Ad Manager. The companies also also developed a custom video template exclusively available in Vimeo Create, optimized for the TikTok platform.

YouTube Shorts launches in 26 more countries

YouTube is expanding the availability of its YouTube Shorts service by 26 countries to 100 in total, after a limited release in India late in 2020 and a US beta at the start of 2021. Although short videos could be viewed on the platform before, users will be able to access for the first time Shorts creative tools, which include a multi-segment camera for combining multiple video clips and the ability to record with music or to choose speed settings.

Telefonica said it has signed a global deal with Chinese video-sharing app TikTok to develop local co-marketing and strategic activities. The partners intend to create innovative new ways for the TikTok community to enjoy their favourite short-form videos across Telefonica services, including a series of local activations in the operators key markets across Europe and Latin America.

Dutch association Somi sues Tiktok for neglecting child safety

Market information association Somi (Stichting Onderzoek Marktinformatie) is taking TikTok to court on behalf of 1 million Dutch children, for "negligence in ensuring the safety and privacy of children." The suit had been in preparation since April. Somi is claiming EUR 2000 for each child under the age of 13, EUR 1000 for children aged 13 to 15 and EUR 500 each for children aged 16 and 17, for a total of EUR 1.4 billion.
