Verizon tops bids in C-band auction with USD 45.5 billion outlay

The FCC has announced the winning bidders in the recent C-Band auction. Verizon accounted for over half the total bids, acquiring 3,511 licences for a total USD 45.45 billion. AT&T came second with 1,621 licences for USD 23.41 billion, and T-Mobile US spent USD 9.34 billion on 142 licences. US Cellular was the fourth-highest bidder, with a total USD 1.28 billion for 254 licences.

The auction of the 3.7-3.98 GHz band was completed in January with total bids of USD 80.9 billion. The mid-range spectrum is seen as key to expanding 5G network coverage and capacity across the US. In addition to the licence fees, the mobile operators will help cover the costs of moving existing satellite services in the band to other frequencies.

AT&T, Verizon to limit power of 5G signals, but will not postpone any launches

AT&T and Verizon do not plan to delay the rollout of their new 5G mobile services, CNet reported. The response come after a request by US transportation officials to delay the planned launch next week, on concerns the services could threaten aircraft safety. Boeing and Airbus wrote to the US government at the end of last year, asking for a postponement.

AT&T, Verizon delay C-band 5G roll-out by 1 month on aviation safety concerns

AT&T and Verizon have agreed to delay their roll-out of new C-band spectrum in order to give regulators more time to work on limiting potential interference for plane cockpit safety systems. The mobile operators agreed to delay the deployment on their 5G networks in the band for one month, until 05 January, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Verizon grows Q1 net profit 25% on business recovery, broadband demand

Verizon reported net profit for the first quarter up 25.4 percent to USD 5.4 billion. The increase was driven by its cost savings programme and a recovery in the B2B market following restructuring there. Revenues rose 4.0 percent to USD 32.9 billion, as growth in broadband and business services as well as higher equipment sales helped offset a drop in the number of mobile customers.

Verizon has started installing C-band equipment from Ericsson and Samsung. The company said the move is expected to speed up the deployment of its 5G Ultra Wideband and fixed wireless broadband services on its recently acquired C-band spectrum.

T-Mobile US has over 10 mln customers on 5G network

T-Mobile US CEO Mike Sievert said the company now has over 10 million customers on its 5G network, Bloomberg reported. The statement follows a presentation by the company on its growth targets for the mid-term. The company said it plans to expand its 5G fixed-wireless service to consumers, after launching earlier for businesses. T-Mobile US also wants to grow its market in rural areas with packages combing mobile, home broadband and related 5G products.

Verizon has agreed to acquire the LTE in Rural America (LRA) assets from Triangle Mobile, a services provider based in Montana. The deal is expected to close by mid-year. Verizon Communications has started a USD 25 billion bond offering aimed at helping it pay for the spectrum it bought during the latest C-band auction, MarketWatch reported, adding that demand has been big. The company has already paid USD 8.2 billion to the US Treasury and needs to give USD 36 billion this month, Bloomberg noted.

Verizon is bringing its 5G Home Internet service to ten more cities this month. From 18 March, the service will become available in parts of Cleveland (Ohio), Las Vegas (Nevada),Louisville (Kentucky), Omaha (Nebraska), and San Diego (California).
