Vodafone Germany upgrades 60K homes to 500 Mbps, prepares super-vectoring tariff launch

Vodafone Germany said it has upgraded internet connections for another 60,000 households connected to its network, enabling them to surf the web at up to 500 Mbps. Residences in large cities like Munich, Hamburg and Wuerzburg as well as rural areas like Eisenfeld, Gauting and Reinfeld have benefited from this most recent round of upgrades, said Vodafone. It said 5.2 million homes with 10.5 million people in them now have access to 500 Mbps broadband.

Vodafone said it would begin offering 6 million households a super-vectoring VDSL tariff with service at up to 250 Mbps as of 07 August. The offer is primarily targeted at homes outside its cable expansion area, it said.

A total of 12.7 million households can now surf the internet at speeds of at least 200 Mbps on Vodafone's network, of which 8.4 million households have access to 400 Mbps internet, it added. The company said over three quarters of new cable customers now select a tariff offering speeds of at least 200 Mbps. All 12.7 million households connected to Vodafone's cable network should have access to 1 Gbps internet by late 2020.
