Vodafone is planning to build an LTE network on the moon as part of Germany’s first lunar mission, and visitors to the IFA trade fair in Berlin can see a simulated moon station presented in conjunction with PTScienists. The landing module for the mission is called Alina and will maintain connectivity with Earth via 4G.
The operator said visitors to IFA from 01 to 06 September will get a taste of what it is like to be an astronaut, adding that only twelve people have set foot on the moon so far. The LTE base station on the moon will be able to send clear images to our planet, it added. It will use solar panels for its power and the LTE technology will only use a small fraction of the energy.
