Wind Tre starts operations in Italy
The new company Wind Tre has started operations in Italy, following the merger of Vimpelcom's Wind with Hutchison's 3 Italia. The company becomes the biggest mobile operator in Italy with over 31 million customers, as well as 2.7 million fixed clients. 

Wind CEO Maximo Ibarra will lead the merger group and the planned investment in the company's networks to accelerate its offer of fixed-mobile plans and high-speed broadband. Dina Ravera, the former COO of 3, is the merger integration officer, Stefano Invernizzi head of finance, Benoit Hanssen CTO, Paolo Nanni head of Business & Wholesale, Luciano Sale HR, Mark Shalaby in charge of Legal, Compliance & Regulatory, Michiel Van Eldik chief of Consumer & Digital and Massimo Angelini head of communications.

Italian operator Wind Tre is preparing to launch a second brand to compete with low-cost rivals such as TIM's Kena Mobile, Vodafone's Ho Mobile and new entrant Iliad Italia, reports Mondo Mobile Web. The company filed an application to register the trademark Very Mobile last November and is also considering using WTRE as its main brand, according to unnamed sources. Italian operator Wind Tre is examining the possibility of creating a newco for its towers business, selling off its data centres and transferring staff to Milan, according to a reorganisation plan presented to trade unions and seen by news agency Radiocor. Italy's Wind Tre posts Q1 revenues up 2% to EUR 1.6 bln

Wind Tre fibre grid to cover 2.2 mln addresses by end-2017

Italian operator Wind Tre expects its deal with Open Fiber to bring FTTH service to 2.2 million addresses by the end of 2107 and 3.8 million at the end of 2018, chief executive Maximo Ibarra said. 3 Italia has added Samsung's latest A series smartphones – the Galaxy A3 and A5 – to its handset portfolio.
