The 2x10 MHz block was offered again for sale by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission after the previous winning bidder, Jas Mobile Broadband, was unable to raise financing for the licence. New bidders were expected to at least match Jasmine's offer, and AIS was the only company to qualify for the auction. True already acquired frequencies in the original auction in December.
AIS said it must pay a deposit of THB 8.603 billion for the licence within 90 days and provide a bank guarantee for the rest of the amount in order to gain access to the spectrum. The frequencies will allow AIS to continue its 2G services when its current licence expires at the end of June.
