Amazon has won a deal to stream live matches from the American football league. The NFL Thursday night games will be offered free to its Prime subscribers around the world, reports Recode.
The company is thought to have paid USD 50 million for the rights to 10 games, a person familiar with the matter said. That compares to USD 10 million paid by Twitter last year for the same package. Facebook and YouTube reportedly also bid for the streaming rights.
Amazon's rights are not exclusive, as the broadcast networks CBS and NBC will show each five of the matches, on TV and streaming. Verizon also has the rights to stream the games to its mobile customers. Amazon will have the right to sell ads during the matches, but said it may use this time to promote its own video services.
