America Movil applies for Mexican TV licence via 'Claro TV' - report
America Movil has applied to Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) for a licence to provide pay-TV services via a new unit called “Claro TV”, reports business daily El Economista. In December the IFT said it had received a request from America Movil to provide audiovisual services via pay-TV or another form of digital content distribution, subsequently confirmed by the company’s CEO Daniel Hajj. In February the chief executive said the company would finally be able to launch full triple-play services in an initial 6 million homes if the application is approved.

The IFT is expected to reveal its decision by mid-April, although it may well ask for further information from Claro TV, said the report, adding that the request has to comply with the country’s laws on telecommunications and broadcasting, economic competition and administrative procedure.
