
America Movil reported improved results for the second quarter, with revenues up 6.9 percent year-on-year to MXN 250 billion. Service revenues rose 8.1 percent and were up 4.2 percent on at constant exchange rates, its best performance in ten quarters. The growth was led by mobile data services, which grew revenues 21.8 percent, and improving ARPU in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile and Peru.
EBITDA increased 13.7 percent year-on-year to MXN 69.4 billion and rose 10.4 percent at constant exchange rates. The company said all operations posted sequential increases in EBITDA, with very significant moves in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Europe, Mexico and Colombia. The EBITDA margin stood at 27.8 percent, up 0.7 percentage points from the prior quarter and up 1.7 percentage points from a year earlier.
Net profit jumped 86 percent to MXN 13.3 billion, supported by lower taxes. Net debt was also lower, at MXN 550.8 billion compared to MXN 629.7 billion in December, giving leverage of 1.9x EBITDA. Capital expenditures totaled MXN 51.0 billion in the first half of the year, and the company spent another MXN 3.6 billion on acquisitions.
America Movil ended June with 363 million subscriptions, little changed from a year ago. Mobile customers rose by 215,000 in the second quarter but were down 1.0 percent year-on-year to 280 million. Postpaid customers increased by 565,000 in Q2 and rose by 5.1 percent from a year earlier. Fixed RGUs were up 1.1 percent year-on-year, led by 5.7 percent growth in broadband.
