Apple has made the first payment towards the EUR 13 billion in unfair state aid it was ordered to pay back to Ireland. The Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said that the first tranche of EUR 1.5 billion was deposited in an escrow fund and the remaining amount should be paid into the fund in Q2 and Q3.
The money will be held in escrow pending a ruling on the appeals filed by Apple and the Irish government against the European Commission's decision. The account will be managed by independent fund managers selected by the government.
