
The around 35,000 customers will receive an offer to switch to Scarlet before the end of June 2015, when the services will stop. Scarlet offers a free switching service with a similar TV product. Customers with broadband or broadband and fixed telephony will receive the same service and prices. Business customers on the ProNet&Tel plan will also need to switch provider. The ten Base employees involved with the service will be moved to other positions at the operator.
Base did not have a regulated access agreement with Belgacom, but struck its own commercial deal. The costs of the fixed product, such as content rights and connection costs, were too high for a challenger on the fixed market, and the government did not ensure a supportive environment for a newcomer, Base said. Base will focus on the mobile market going forward.
