BQ starts global sales of Ubuntu smartphones
BQ has opened a global store for its smartphones running the Ubuntu operating system, expanding sales beyond the initial European launch earlier this year. The company offers two phones running Ubuntu, the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and the slightly larger Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition. The first was launched in February in Europe and the second followed in June. 

BQ and Ubuntu developer Canonical noted that the HSPA phones may not be compatible in all countries with all networks, notably in the US, but the new storefront will still support shipments around the world. They said they aim to offer more Ubuntu phones for specific regions in future.

However, 4G LTE smartphone demand grew an impressive 76 percent year on year, as most brands transitioned to an all LTE portfolio and operators continued to push LTE smartphone bundles across the region.

Jolla launches Sailfish development community phone Jolla C

Jolla, the Finnish developer of open mobile operating system Sailfish, announced the Sailfish Community Device Programme and said it sold out on the same day. The programme was for Sailfish developers and fans and included a new Sailfish OS smartphone called the Jolla C. It has a quad-core Snapdragon processor, 2 GB of memory, a five-inch HD display and dual SIMs.

Spanish smartphone manufacturer bq has unveiled the latest smartphone in its Aquaris X5 range at Mobile World Congress. BQ Ubuntu handsets to launch in Russia

The BQ Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition and shortly the E4.5 Ubuntu Edition handsets will be sold in Russia through a host of local Russian distributors, announced BQ. The devices will come preloaded with a number of scopes specifically developed for the Russian market including applications from VKontakte, Yandex, Mail.Ru and Kinopoisk. The Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition will be sold at a price of RUB 15,499, and the Aquaris E4.5 will cost RUB 12,499.

Bq, Tuenti strike smartphone deal

Spanish smartphone manufacturer bq has announced an agreement with MVNO Tuenti that will give Tuenti customers a 15 percent discount on three of bq's latest mid-range handsets. As part of the deal the operator's customers can acquire the bq Aquaris M5, Aquaris E5 4G and Aquaris A4.5 for EUR 220.90, EUR 186.90 and EUR 144.40 respectively. All smartphones are sold unlocked and the promotion runs until 15 November.

Spanish smartphone manufacturer bq has introduced its first smartphone with an all-metal frame, the Aquaris X5.
