Cable Bahamas to invest USD 80 mln in FTTH rollout

Cable Bahamas (CBL) has announced plans to invest USD 80 million over the next two to three years to replace its HFC network with FTTH, reports local news site Tribune 242, citing company CEO Franklyn Butler. The rollout will cover all premises located on the country’s most populous island of New Providence and will be contracted to NewCo Fibre, said Butler, adding that Abaco islands will also be receiving FTTH, while Eleuthera and Grand Bahama are not the priority at this stage.

CBL had 56,000 broadband subscribers at the end of its fiscal year (June 2021). It reported a net loss of USD 28 million due entirely to the results of its mobile unit Aliv, which suffered a net loss of over USD 40 million even though revenues rose 8.5 percent year on year to USD 85.3 million.
