Deutsche Telekom plans to cover 90% of population with 5G this year

Deutsche Telekom said it plans to cover 90 percent of the German population with 5G this year. The operator will soon achieve the milestone of covering 80 percent. At the end of March, over 66 million people in Germany will be able to use Deutsche Telekom's 5G network in 5,000 cities and communities.

Deutsche Telekom has installed over 50,000 antennas to provide 5G across German, using 2.1 GHz and 3.6 GHz spectrum. The operator is now offering 5G on this band in over 30 cities. It has also upgraded over 2,500 LTE antennas for customers speeds of up to 300 Mbps. 

Deutsche Telekom currently operates a 600,000 km long network in Germany. It wants to provide FTTH to all German households by 2030, in partnership with other companies. The operator plans to expand the fibre network to over 600 municipalities by 2024.

Deutsche Telekom CTO sees FTTH available for 10 mln households by 2024

Deutsche Telekom confirmed plans to connect ten million households to the FTTH network by 2024. In a blog post, the company's CTO Walter Goldenits said Telekom will connect one million households FTTH in the course of this year and aims to ramp this up to two million households passed a year from as soon as 2022.

Deutsche Telekom plans to connect new residential area in Munich with FTTH

Deutsche Telekom said it is planning to connect a new residential area in the northern part of Munich with FTTH. The new district with 5,500 apartments and with schools will be built by 2030 to accommodate around 15,000 people. The Bayernkaserne site had served for decades as barracks for the German armed forces, which left in 2011.

Deutsche Telekom said it plans to invest EUR 500 million by 2030 in building its own fibre-optic network and expanding 5G in Munich. The company wants to build pure fibre-optic connections that provide up to 1 Gbps speeds for residents of the Bavarian capital, and improve mobile coverage throughout the city and the surrounding areas. After Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf, Munich is the next major German city chosen by Telekom to expand fibre.

Deutsche Telekom targets 1-2% revenue growth, 3-5% higher EBITDA under new targets

Deutsche Telekom has set new strategic growth targets for the medium-term up to 2024. 5G and fibre, but also sustainability and a pronounced presence in the B2B market, will drive growth in the coming years. Telekom aims to reach average annual growth in adjusted EBITDA of 3-5 percent and revenue of 1-2 percent, it said at its annual capital markets day.

Deutsche Telekom plans over 1 mln FTTH lines in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Duesseldorf

Deutsche Telekom announced plans to expand its FTTH network in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Duesseldorf for over one million households and companies by 2025. In Hamburg, Telekom plans to connect 540,000 households and companies to FTTH by 2025, in Frankfurt 375,000 and in Duesseldorf around 160,000.

Deutsche Telekom equips Berlin Olympiastadion with 5G

Deutsche Telekom said it has equipped the Olympiastadion in Berlin with 5G for the occasion of the German football cup final. In a first step, the Coubertinsaal, the press conference room and the VIP boxes have been equipped with 5G, as well as the Hertha fan shop and the restaurant. The company will test whether the new 5G technology works with the existing 4G. The 5G network in the stadium already reaches speeds of 1 Gbps.

Deutsche Telekom has installed an LTE site in the municipality of Kludenbach in the district of Rhein-Hunsrueck in the state Rheinland-Pfalz as part of the programme "We hunt dead spots". The aim of the campaign is to close so-called dead spots to improve mobile coverage. Telekom has been receiving an increasing number of applications from municipalities.

Deutsche Telekokm said it is preparing to set up vaccination centres against Covid-19 at eighteen locations in order to vaccinate its employees. The company plans to give the first dose of the vaccine to over half of employees within six weeks. It aims to vaccinate up to 80 percent of the workforce within eight weeks.

Deutsche Telekom invests EUR 36 bln in network infrastructure in past 7 years

Deutsche Telekom said it has invested EUR 36 billion to build network infrastructure in Germany in the past seven years. The company plans to build a FTTH network for 10 million households by 2024 and for every household by 2030. Telekom intends to work with partners to build the network, Chief Executive Officer Tim Hoettges said.

Deutsche Telekom installs small mobile systems in advertising pillars in Berlin

Deutsche Telekom said it is installing small mobile systems in advertising pillars in Berlin to improve network coverage. The so-called small cells expand the range of coverage and raise data speeds. Telekom uses the antennas to supply the entire area around the advertising pillar with mobile communications in a circular manner, providing LTE with bandwidths of up to 150 Mbps.

Deutsche Telekom said it has built up 5G capacities at 892 mobile sites across Germany in the past two months. The mobile sites also provide LTE connectivity through Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). In addition, Telekom has built up more LTE capacities at 1,690 locations and in total, it has installed 464 new LTE mobile sites.

Deutsche Telekom said it will build up to 200 new mobile sites in North Rhine-Westphalia in the first half of 2021, as it aims to fulfil the mobile communications pact signed by the state government and network operators. It has built 973 new mobile sites in North Rhine-Westphalia in the past two and half years, and 5,230 upgrades to expand capacity at sites were carried out. Its LTE network currently covers 99.5 percent of households in the state.

Deutsche Telekom said it has expanded 5G network capacity at 1,257 mobile sites across Germany over the past four weeks. The sites still provide LTE connectivity, thanks to Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). Telekom has also expanded 4G capacity at 219 existing mobile sites.
