Deutsche Telekom reports underlying revenues up 3.5% in Q1

Deutsche Telekom reported first-quarter revenues up 8.7 percent to EUR 19.5 billion, driven by acquisitions in Austria and the Netherlands and continued growth at T-Mobile US. Adjusted EBITDA after leases, which excludes the impact of new accounting rules, rose 8.3 percent to EUR 5.9 billion, and free cash flow on the same basis increased 18.1 percent to EUR 1.6 billion.

On an organic basis, excluding the positive effect of a stronger US dollar, revenues rose 3.5 percent, accelerating from 3.1 percent growth in 2018. EBITDA was up 3.9 percent, and free cash flow rose 9.6 percent. Deutsche Telekom maintained its full-year forecast for higher adjusted EBITDA AL of around EUR 23.9 billion and free cash flow AL at EUR 6.7 billion.

Telekom's net profit was still down slightly, by 9.3 percent to EUR 900 million. Cash capex increased 21.9 percent to EUR 3.8 billion. 

Revenues growth was led by the US, up 15.9 percent to EUR 9.8 billion, while Telekom's home market Germany returned to growth of 0.6 percent, to EUR 5.4 billion in sales. In the rest of Europe, revenues were up 2.8 percent to EUR 2.9 billion, and international sales accounted in total for 69 percent of group revenue.
