DT supports dementia research with game Sea Hero Quest

Deutsche Telekom has launched a new mobile game called Sea Hero Quest. The multi platform mobile game is specifically designed to help advance understanding of spatial navigation and how this aspect of our brain works, as part of efforts to help manage the growing threat of dementia.

In a process led by Saatchi & Saatchi London, every aspect of Sea Hero Quest has been designed jointly by game developers and scientists to provide insights about the way we navigate everyday. As players make their way through mazes of islands and icebergs, every second of game play can be translated into scientific data by experts. Playing Sea Hero Quest for 2 minutes equates to five hours of similar, conventional research. If 100,000 people play for two minutes each this can generate the equivalent of more than 50 years of this kind of lab based research.

All of the game play data collected will be anonymised and stored securely within T-Systems data centres in Germany to ensure data integrity and data privacy according to German law. Sea Hero Quest is available globally for iOS and Android and can be downloaded free.

Deutsche Telekom's affiliates in Europe, such as Hrvatski Telekom in Croatia, Telekom Romania and Makedonski Telecom in Macedonia, are also introducing the game. The game is promoted on Twitter under the hashtag #gameforgood.
