Ericsson expands TV range with acquisition of Fabrix Systems
Ericsson has agreed to acquire Fabrix Systems, a provider of cloud storage, computing and network delivery for video applications that power cloud DVR deployments. The deal extends Ericsson's growing TV and media portfolio with a cloud-based, scale-out storage and computing platform focused on providing a simple, tightly integrated system optimized for media storage, processing and delivery applications such as cloud DVR and video-on-demand.

According to Ericsson, the Fabrix approach takes advantage of the latest advances in clustered storage, grid computing, virtualization and video processing technologies, enabling a wide range of applications. Ericssom will integrate the technology with its new MediaFirst and Mediaroom systems for pay-TV delivery.

Fabrix Systems was founded in 2006 and has 103 employees in offices in the US and Israel. Ericsson will pay USD 95 million for the acquisition, which is expected to close in Q4. Fabrix Systems will be incorporated into the division Business Unit Support Solutions.
