Ericsson wins USD 8.3 billion contract to expand Verizon 5G network

Ericsson announced a landmark deal with Verizon to provide 5G equipment for its network expansion in the US. The company said the USD 8.3 billion, five-year deal is its largest ever single contract.

Verizon will deploy Ericsson's 5G MIMO C-band, low-band and mmWave equipment to expand its coverage and network performance. This includes technologies such as massive MIMO, spectrum sharing and Cloud RAN, complementing the Ericsson Radio System portfolio already in deployment. 

In 2020, Verizon was the first operator to receive a commercial 5G mmWave Street Macro base station from Ericsson's factory in Lewisville, Texas. Ericsson said it is committed to building and accelerating the nationwide build-out of 5G across the country.

Ericsson sales slightly lower again in Q3, on China slowdown, supply chain problems

Ericsson's sales growth was slightly negative again in the third quarter, as the company is hurt by the slowdown in sales in China and supply-chain shortages. Revenues fell 2 percent year-on-year and were down 1 percent on an organic basis to SEK 56.3 billion. With market share gains in other countries and higher IPR revenues, EBIT was still up 2 percent to SEK 8.8 billion, and net profit rose 4 percent to SEK 5.8 billion.

Viaero Wireless, a regional telecommunications company operating in the Midwest and western US, said it has selected Ericsson to replace and upgrade its LTE equipment to 5G-ready products. Verizon raises FY outlook as mobile growth strengthens in Q2

Verizon has raised its full-year outlook after reporting a return to growth at its consumer mobile business in Q2. Wireless service revenues rose 5.9 percent year-on-year in the second quarter to USD 16.9 billion, and Verizon now expects annual growth of 3.5-4.0 percent compared to a previous forecast of at least 3 percent.

Ericsson Q2 revenues fall 1% on China slowdown, Networks still up strongly on 5G demand

Ericsson reported second-quarter revenues down 1 percent year-on-year to SEK 54.9 billion, hurt by a drop in sales in China. On an organic basis, excluding changes in scope and currency effects, revenues were up 8 percent, thanks to continued robust growth at its Networks division. Adjusted EBIT jumped 29 percent to SEK 5.8 billion, helped by improved operating leverage and the company's restructuring efforts, and net profit was up 51 percent to SEK 3.9 billion.

Ericsson strengthens Cloud RAN portfolio with 5G mid-band support, Intel servers

Ericsson has extended its Cloud RAN (Radio Access Network) offering to include support for 5G mid-band and Massive MIMO deployments. These latest enhancements to Ericsson's portfolio were developed in collaboration with customers such as Verizon in order to address new spectrum bands coming available in the US and elsewhere. With the latest updates, Cloud RAN customers also will get access to standardised hardware based on Intel processors and HPE servers.

Samsung expands virtualised RAN to support C-Band

Samsung Electronics said that its commercial 5G virtualised RAN(vRAN) now supports its latest C-Band Massive MIMO radios, a first for the industry and a key milestone in virtualisation technology. In addition, the company achieved a top 5G vRAN speed exceeding 1.5Gbps on C-Band spectrum. These results were achieved in a demonstration at Samsung's lab in Korea. Samsung is also conducting field trials using these products, and plans to commercialise the platform this year.
