EU anti-trust chief doubts Orange Austria, Hutchison deal
EU anti-trust commissioner Joaquin Almunia has questioned whether 3 Austria can find a suitable concession to appease regulators and secure approval for its proposed EUR 1.3 billion takeover of Orange Austria, Reuters reports. In the text of a speech to be given at Georgetown Law School conference in Washington, Almunia said the deal would reduce the number of competitors in the Austrian mobile market from four to three, and expressed doubt as to whether effective remedies could be found to ease regulatory concerns.

Orange Austria customer base up 4% over nine months

Orange Austria has reported sales of EUR 361.7 million for the first nine months of 2012, down 4 percent year-on-year, in line with the development of the overall market. EBITDA was up 8 percent to EUR 124.4 million. CEO Michael Krammer said that the first nine months of 2012 had been very positive for the company. The number of customers was up 4 percent or around 100,000 year-on-year to 2.4 million, boosted by the new SIM-only tariffs and a focus on customer service. ARPU was stable over the nine months.

Austrian 4G auction delayed until at least September 2013

Austria's planned auction of 4G mobile spectrum is not likely to happen for at least another 12 months, APA reports. Speaking to the press in Vienna on 03 October, RTR president Georg Serentschy said it was unlikely that the auction would happen in summer 2013, adding that September 2013 was a more likely target.
