Facebook Q3 revenues boosted by expansion in mobile

Facebook reported third-quarter revenue up 32 percent from a year earlier to USD 1.26 billion and highlighted a stronger expansion in its mobile users. Ads made up 86 percent of total revenue and grew 36 percent to USD 1.09 billion, of which 14 percent came from mobile platforms. Payments and other fees contributed USD 176 million in revenue, up 13 percent from a year ago. The social network counted 1.01 billion active monthly users in September, up 26 percent from a year ago, while monthly mobile users rose 61 percent year-on-year to 604 million. The company's operating profit fell to USD 377 million from USD 414 million a year ago due to costs for share-based compensation, and the net result was a loss of USD 59 million versus a profit of USD 227 million a year ago due to higher taxes. Facebook still had USD 10.5 billion in cash at the end of the period.
