Google activates public Wi-Fi hotspots platform in Mexico

Google has announced the introduction of its ‘Google Station’ public Wi-Fi hotspots platform in Mexico, the first Latin America country to receive the service and the third globally, after India and Indonesia. The service is available in over 60 “high-traffic” venues in 44 Mexican cities, including airports, shopping malls and public transit stations, with the company planning to reach over 100 locations before the end of the year. Google added that it’s working with local internet provider Sitwifi to convert its existing hotspots to Google Station.

The aim of the service is to give partners an easy set of tools to roll out Wi-Fi hotspots in public places and make internet access more widely available in what is the third highest internet penetration country in Latin America, said Google.
