Google selects TE SubCom to build private trans-Atlantic cable system

Google announced plans for a new trans-Atlantic cable project, named Dunant, in partnership with TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity company specialising in undersea communication systems. Spanning 6,400 km from Virginia Beach to the French Atlantic coast, the private cable will support the growth of Google Cloud by adding network capacity across one of the busiest routes on the internet, said the company. As part of the project, TE SubCom will design, manufacture and lay the four fibre pair cable, which is expected to become operational in late 2020.

Google installs US-Chile Curie cable, announces Panama branch

Google has finalised installing and testing its 10,500-kilometre Curie undersea cable linking the coast of California to the port of Valparaiso in Chile around 6 months after landing. The company is now connecting the private cable to its network and expects it to begin transmitting data in the second quarter of 2020, delivering 72 Tbps of bandwidth to South America. Curie is the first subsea cable to connect to Chile in 19 years and was built in partnership with SubCom.

TE Connectivity sells SubCom for USD 325 mln in cash

TE Connectivity has agreed to sell its subsea communications operations, SubCom, to Cerberus Capital Management for USD 325 million in cash. The deal is expected to complete by the end of TE's fiscal first quarter, subject to the usual closing conditions. The company said it will use proceeds from the sale to fund share buybacks. SubCom, part of TE's Communications Solutions segment, is a global supplier of undersea communications technology and marine services.
