Google has announced plans to open its first physical store, at its New York City campus in the Chelsea area. From this summer, the store will serve as a place for people to try out the company's hardware and services.
At the Google Store, customers will be able to browse and buy an extensive selection of products made by Google, ranging from Pixel phones to Nest products, Fitbit devices to Pixelbooks and more, Google said. They can also order products on the Google Store website and pick them up at the shop.
The store will allow Google to highlight how its products work together. Staff at the shop will help visitors set up their device, trouble-shoot problems and get repairs, as well as lead workshops on the Google product range.
The store opening acknowledges that "many customers still want to experience hardware before they buy it", Google said. When the shop first opens, the company will however be limiting the number of visitors and following health recommendations to limit exposure to the coronavirus.
While no mention was made of more stores opening, Google said it would use feedback from the Chelsea outlet to explore other possibilities of a physical retail space.
