About 4 billion, or half of the world’s entire population, now own a smartphone, according to a study from Strategy Analytics conducted in June. The number of smartphone owners was at 30,000 in 1994, rising to 1.0 billion in 2015 and 3.95 billion in June. There are an estimated 7.90 billion people on the planet.
“The smartphone is the most successful computer of all time,” the researcher noted, adding that it expects 5 billion to be using a smartphone by 2030.
