Hoffmann report clears MTN in Turkcell case

MTN has released the findings of the Lord Hoffmann committee it set up to review the allegations made by Turkcell in a lawsuit against MTN in the US. The year-long review found the Turkcell claims "without foundation", MTN said. Hoffmann concluded that he found nothing in the conduct of MTN that put in question MTN's integrity or propriety, MTN said. The company said it was particularly pleased to note Hoffmann's findings that the allegations against MTN's former CEO Phuthuma Nhleko and former Commercial Director Irene Charnley were baseless. The report found that there was no conspiracy between MTN and Iranian officials to remove Turkcell from the successful consortium for a licence in Iran and that there was no promise on the part of MTN to get the South African government to supply defence equipment to Iran or to support Iran's nuclear policy at the IAEA. MTN said that is has accepted Hoffmann's recommendation that his report be published in full.
