HTC announced the launch of a new storefront for virtual reality content, called Viveport. Viveport showcases VR experiences across art, creativity tools, design, education, fashion, music, sports, travel and video, to help support VR content creators and increase take-up by end-users.
The app store is initially available in over 30 countries, and in a special launch offer is selling several titles for just USD 1. Apps and content are available from Everest VR, Google Spotlight Stories' Pearl, Lifeliqe, Stonehenge VR, The Music Room, theBlu and others. HTC said there will be more surprises in the coming days and weeks, including giveaways of unlimited content for selected winners.
This is the latest of HTC's efforts to build an ecosystem for VR and expand its business beyond smartphones. After launching its own VR headsets for consumers and businesses, the company has been investing in content start-ups, helping to train VR developers and partnering with a range of companies to help the market get off the ground.
