Huawei moves to assure New Zealand on security

The chief executive officer of Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies has assured the New Zealand communications minister that its equipment does not pose a threat to cyber security. Ren Zhengfei held his first public media briefing in Wellington and said to communications minister Amy Adams that "there should not be too much concern" over cyber security in New Zealand, the BusinessDesk reports. "Our business is just like building pipes," he said. "Our pipe carries the data and information traffic – if the water running through the pipe is polluted, I think it is not the pipe that should be blamed." Australia and the US have raised concerns over Huawei equipment. However, recently, Huawei won an LTE equipment contract from Telecom New Zealand.
