For existing G6 owners, LG announced three new features. Face Print is a new security feature allowing users to unlock the phone with facial recognition. They only need to hold the phone in front of their face, and without pressing any keys, the screen is unlocked.
In addition, the company is activating Low Power Consumption, a feature in the Qualcomm Hexagon DSP architecture in the Snapdragon processor on the phone. The All-Ways Aware hub takes advantage of Google’s Contextual Hub Runtime Environment (CHRE) to sense and collect data at all times from both sensors and wireless connections to improve the user experience with third-party applications, all while using very little battery power and reducing latency.
Finally, the Covered Lens warning prevents users from inadvertently including a finger in their phones taken with the wide-angle lens on the G6. This feature alerts the user with a notification on the display if a finger is in the picture.
Beyond the enhanced software, LG is introducing two new colors for the LG G6: Optical Marine Blue and Optical Terra Gold. The backs of these new phones are covered with a lenticular film to deliver an optical effect. The new colours, software and G6+ will roll out from next month.
