Mexican watchdog launches new antitrust probe in mobile market
Mexico’s telecommunications regulator IFT has announced the launch of another investigation into possible monopolistic practices, this time concerning the country’s mobile telecommunications market. The probe was initiated in response to a complaint and will look into possible breaches of competition law in both the retail of mobile services and the sale of mobile terminal equipment, said the watchdog.

The investigation will last at least 30 working days and no more than 120 working days, but can be extended up to four times. Earlier this year the regulator launched a probe into possible monopolistic practices in the wholesale services market of the local network of America Movil's Telmex unit.

Mexico's IFT forced to cancel projects due to 2020 budget cut

Mexican telecommunications regulator IFT has announced that it will be forced to "cancel or postpone" projects scheduled for 2020 due to a significant budget cut ordered by congress. In a statement, the watchdog said the public spending austerity plan of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has resulted in its budget being cut by over 10 percent to around MXN 1.54 billion, some MXN 188.8 million less than the amount it requested to effectively regulate Mexico's telecommunications and broadcasting market.
