Microsoft Teams grows to 20 mln daily users

Microsoft said its workplace messaging app, Teams, has grown to more than 20 million daily active users, up from 13 million in July, Reuters reports. This puts it well ahead of rival Slack, which reported more than 10 million daily active users at the end of July. 

Microsoft offers Teams as part of some Office365 business packages, as well as a free version. Teams allows users to chat, share files, make calls and hold web video conferences. It was first introduced in 2017 and more recently replaced the Skype for Business offering. In addition to Slack, the service competes with Cisco's Webex and Workplace by Facebook.

Microsoft has grown the daily active user base for its Teams messaging platform by 12 million in the past week, from 32 million users to 44 million as of 19 March. The number has more than doubled since November 2019 when it last gave customer figures. The company announced the user figures along with new features for the app launching later this year.

Invitech became the first company in Hungary to offer Microsoftʼs workplace messaging app as a unified ICT service, according to local paper Budapest Business Journal citing the company. Invitech says that companies may replace their outdated PBX systems and use a Teams-based communications platform, whether it comes to phone calls or video conferences.
