Microsoft Teams hits new record of 2.7 bln meeting minutes in one day

Microsoft said its Teams messaging platform has hit a new daily record, reaching 2.7 billion meeting minutes on 31 March. That compares to a record 900 million on 16 March, a jump of 200 percent.

Among countries with the most active Teams users, people in Norway and the Netherlands turn on video most, with about 60 percent of calls including video. The percentage goes to 57 percent for Australians, 53 percent for Italians, 52 people for people in Chile, 51 percent for the Swiss and 49 percent for Spaniards. People in the UK, Canada and Sweden use video 47 percent of the time, while people in Mexico and the US use it 41 percent and 38 percent respectively. People in Singapore (26%) , South Africa (36%), France (37%) and Japan (39%) use the video feature less.

To make the service more practical, Microsoft said it has released an "end meeting" button for organisers. In addition, it will bring out real-time noise suppression later this year. The service will use AI to reduce distracting background noise.
