Microsoft unveils Teams Essentials standalone subscription for small businesses

Microsoft has unveiled Teams Essentials, its first standalone Microsoft Teams offering, designed specifically for small businesses. The service costs USD 4 per person, per month, providing unlimited group meetings of up to 30 hours, meetings with up to 300 people and 10 GB of cloud storage per user. 

Teams Essentials comes with existing and new capabilities compared to the free version of Teams, including simple invites, professional meeting tools and capabilities, and a new small-business group chat template. The free version provides group meetings for 60 minutes for up to 100 participants, plus 5 GB of cloud storage per user. 

Customers can buy Teams Essentials through the Teams website or from a variety of Microsoft Cloud Partners.

Zoom starts airing ads to free users in pilot scheme

Zoom said it has rolled out a pilot advertising programme for users in certain countries. Under the trial, users on the company's free Basic plan may start seeing ads on the browser page after a call ends, and only following meetings hosted by other Basic users. In a blog post, the company said the ad programme has been launched to support investment and so that it can continue providing access to its platform for free Basic users.

The company is joining Facebook and Cisco in the metaverse and bringing holograms to Teams and has also developed a new collaboration system for Office users called Loop. Microsoft names Hijazi as public sector director in UAE

Microsoft has named Tareq Hijazi, former director of the company's consulting services division, as public sector director for Microsoft UAE. Hijazi joined Microsoft in 2001 as a technology specialist and in 2006, he was appointed to lead Microsoft Gulf's account team unit for the enterprise segment. In late 2010, Hijazi was made country manager for Bahrain and Oman, and moved back to Dubai in 2014 to lead the small and mid-market solutions and partners group for Microsoft Gulf.

Zoom Video Communications said revenues passed the USD 1 billion mark for the first time in a quarter, as the company expanded beyond its UC platform, launching Zoom Apps and Zoom Events amid covid-19 lockdowns. Revenues passed expectations in the second quarter to end July, rising 54 percent from the year before to USD 1.021 billion. The company has therefore again improved its full-year forecast.
