Monaco delivers Gigabit broadband to every home
Monaco Telecom said Monaco has become the world’s first country to deliver 1 Gbps to every home. The operator owned by French group Iliad's founder Xavier Niel worked with Huawei to be one of the first operators worldwide to upgrade its Docsis 3.0 network. Monaco Telecom has launched a new EUR 49.90 broadband offer, including router, unlimited calls to fixed and mobile numbers in Monaco and France, and public hotspot access in Monaco. Customers no longer need to pay line rental. The subscription is open to all new and existing residential customers. Monaco Telecom said it will use the same network to offer a different range of services for self-employed people and small businesses.

In another first, the government of Monaco and the operator have launched universal TV service in the principality. Every TV connected to the cable network in the country can now receive 83 channels, instead of 18 previously, and 20 are in HD. They include all French DTT channels plus foreign channels from Italy, the UK, Germany, Spain, Russia, China and Middle Eastern countries. The service is carried over the DVB-C cable format. People with recent DVB-C-enabled TVs or with a Monaco Telecom box can connect directly by scanning for channels. Those with older TVs will be able to obtain a preset Denver-branded STB from local TV stores and installers.
