Nokia takes Oppo to court in the UK, France, Germany, India for patent infringement

Nokia is taking Oppo to court in the UK, France, Germany and India, claiming the manufacturer infringed its patents, IAM reported. The current suit covers certain 5G and other patents, related to connectivity, user interface, and security features.

The two companies signed a licence agreement in November 2018 which has since expired. Nokia said the company has been negotiating the renewal of the patent licensing agreement with Oppo but that “unfortunately they have rejected our fair and reasonable offers. Litigation is always our last resort and we have offered to enter into independent and neutral arbitration to amicably resolve the matter. We still believe this would be the most constructive way forward," according to Foss Patents.

Nokia suffers 3 patent set-backs in disputes with Oppo

Nokia has recently suffered two German court set-backs over patent claims against Oppo as well as a revocation from the European Patent Office, according to Foss Patents. On 20 December, Mannheim Regional Court rejected Nokia's complaint over EP2145404 for a method and apparatus to provide control channels for broadcast and paging services, it said, citing a court spokesman.

Nokia Q3 revenues up 16% on double-digit growth in mobile networks

Nokia reported third-quarter revenues up 16 percent year-on-year to EUR 6.2 billion. Organic growth was 6 percent, led by double-digit growth in mobile networks and demand for enterprise private networks. Adjusted operating profit rose 4 percent to EUR 658 million, while the margin dropped to 10.5 percent after delays in renewing IP licensing contracts. Nokia maintained its forecast for underlying revenue growth in the full year and a target for a margin of 11-13 percent.

Oppo pulls phones from German online store after Nokia patent ruling

Oppo has stopped selling products on its website in Germany, after Nokia secured a court sales ban against the company in a patent infringement suit. The Munich district court ruled that Oppo infringes two of Nokia's patents, covering technical processes for improving audio signals and transmitting data over mobile networks, Heise.de reports.

Oppo, Sisvel end patent dispute with 3G/4G licence

Oppo and Sisvel settled their multi-jurisdictional dispute, resulting in a licence that allows for Oppo's use of certain cellular technology covered by standard essential patents (SEPs) owned by Mitsubishi Electric and Sisvel. The three parties have been litigating cellular SEP-related issues around the world since 2019, including jurisdictions in China, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the UK and the US, as well as actions at the CNIPA Patent Review Board and the EPO Opposition Division.

Nokia expects to lift outlook for 2021

Nokia said it saw continued strength in the business in the second quarter. Taken with the positive first quarter, the latest performance provides a "good foundation" for the full-year results, CEO Pekka Lundmark said. As a consequence, the company expects to revise upwards its outlook for the full year. It had earlier guided for net sales of EUR 20.6-21.8 billion, an operating margin of 7-10 percent and positive free cash flow.

Nokia, Daimler sign patent licensing agreement to end past disputes

Nokia said it has signed a patent licensing agreement with Daimler, setting aside past disputes. The companies have been battling out their dispute over car communication patent licensing for years. Recently, the Duesseldorf Regional Court suspended proceedings against Daimler over royalties for Nokia's technology used in navigation systems, vehicle communications and self-driving cars. The court referred to the European Court of Justice to clarify the law as it applies to supply chains.
